in my perfect world... my invite for the vanity fair oscar party was lost in the mail.
year 2 of this! welcome back!
I could try to recap the Oscars, but I don’t know if I have it in me. So, like last year, we'll stick to the (debatably more interesting) after party.
Spring break meant traveling, warmer temperatures and finally getting to wear the summer clothes I randomly purchased in the winter, but it also meant uninterrupted time to catch up on shows! And listen to new music! And read new books! I finished Lessons in Chemistry, as well as started and finished Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow (there may have been tears behind my sunglasses.) Is a book club the next step for CPW? Maybe! My favorite ever, Sabrina Carpenter, also released FOUR new songs! All of them are great, but “Feather” makes me want to dance Scarlett Johansson-Marriage Story style and “things i wish you said” gives me chills. Thank you for your service, Ms. Carpenter.
As for new shows, my DMs are open for You season 4 and Daisy Jones & The Six dialogue (Suki Waterhouse will always be my girl crush).
The way Nate Freeman effortlessly weaves together a set-the-scene narrative is baffling to me. He’s the one at Vanity Fair who’s responsible for letting us normies (a Deux Moi coined term) in on who’s in the room and what they’re doing - at the VF Oscar party, at Chanel hosted dinners or at designer-that-must-not-be-named fashion shows. He incorporates the key players (and there’s usually a lot of them) in a way that is not overwhelming, but inclusive; you feel like you’re at the party, too.
I’d recommend reading his previously linked report if you want the dirty details, but I’ll stick to my usual: sharing my favorite photos and adding my own personal captions. This year I’m pulling from the photo booth too, so get comfy!
Perfect Oscar Party Photos
Ke Huy Quan is the winner of this year’s Best Supporting Actor category and no one is more deserving; his performance in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once could not go unrecognized! Did anyone else get emotional at his reunion with Harrison Ford? My Indiana Jones people out there?
From Best Supporting Actor to Best Actress. Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian woman to be dubbed Best Actress AKA history was made! I love when that happens! And she looked glowing while doing it!
You could say that these are the public’s Best Supporting Actresses. Jamie Lee Curtis won the real award, but in the eyes of Twitter, Stephanie Hsu or Angela Bassett should’ve walked away victorious. They said it, not me! As for glam though, I’ll weigh in. Hsu’s blue eyeliner wins the CPW makeup award and Bassett’s Hollywood hair/red dress combo is actually what comes up when you google the word “elegant." Just trust me.
This is what I hope my friends and I look like when we go out in 30 years.
The photo we didn’t know we needed! That we don’t deserve! The Megan X Law Roach duo (speaking of… anyone keeping up with the retirement drama?) is unmatched when it came to her carpet look.
If Angela Bassett was the definition of elegant, Riley Keough is the definition of radiant. Loving her and Suki’s silver and gold moment here.
I have not been immune to the Pedro Pascal pandemonium that’s surfaced as of late; how can you not love him? I actually just watched these two in various YouTube videos - Pascal on Hot Ones and Banks on Hailey Bieber’s Who’s In My Bathroom series.
May the Jennifer Coolidge renaissance never end! She’s taking the dog!
The things I would do for this hug.
Couple goals! Also, noting that neon sign in the back. The celeb photos are great and all, but I’d kill to just see the party decor!
I was rooting for Paul Mescal to win Best Actor for his work in Aftersun, partially because I love an underdog but also because even more than that, I love a handsome Irish man (I was a Niall girl, ok?)
Tracee Ellis Ross nails carpet looks. Her hat could also double as an elegant fruit bowl, so there’s another win.
The In-N-Out is the star of this photo. No hate, Gigi.
Saw this picture and immediately loved Donald Glover’s look. Especially the shoes!
While I love this photo, I’m just taking in the details on the custom Vanity Fair photo booth.
Definitely not an intentional side-eye from Mr. Legend… but it made me laugh.
Now I feel like I should cut my hair again.
Would love to see what’s on Olivia Wilde’s disposable cameras!
Is that a sweater, Justin? A blanket? We’re on the same page, though - I too am loving crochet at the moment.
Absolutely incredible look from Ziwe.
The Hugh Grant conversation being had lately!!!! What do we think? As someone who also connects by using dry humor, I think we should leave him alone.
Camila Morrone is another girl crush. I know I said that photo of Alexandra Daddario made me want to cut my hair, but Morrone in Daisy Jones & The Six makes me want to keep it long. The inner turmoil!
Need this coat. NEED!
This duo scratches an itch in my brain, and that’s the best way I can describe it.
The picture I’m choosing to end on is of Evan Funke. I did not know who Funke was prior to seeing his smiling face in this photo, but after some research, I made some connections. He’s the man behind Mother Wolf, a celeb hub/LA restaurant, and he was also the man behind the party menu. Variety did an interview with Funke on all things VF party prep; if that’s even slightly interesting to you, I’d totally read it. They ask the good questions, and by that I mean, “How concerned are you about using red sauce because that could be a catastrophe on Oscar night?”
That’s all from me! Telling myself that each time I do this is one year closer to me actually attending. Dream big, ppl!
In my perfect world… you’ll keep an eye out for where I’m taking CPW next. A website? An Instagram account? Both?
